How I found my way here

Before I became a vet, I had a lot of different jobs. I’ve been a high school teacher, a park ranger, and a science communicator.

It wasn’t a straight path to get here, but looking back, every step makes sense.

Whether I was teaching students about ecosystems, talking to park visitors about our amazing wildlife, or getting to know just how special someone’s pet is, I’ve seen the same thing again and again: animals bring people together.

And now, as a vet, I get to bring all of this together, helping people understand and care for their pets with kindness and a deep respect for the bond they share.

Why I created Comfy Critters

I’ve worked in general practice, emergency and mobile care, and over time, I saw just how much better end of life care could be.

There’s so much pressure in vet clinics. So much rushing. And I’ve seen what happens when families don’t get the space, support or softness they deserve. I experienced it myself.

So I’ve built something different. A practice that slows things down. That meets pets and their people where they - literally and emotionally.

I give families time, clarity and calm in some of the hardest moments of their lives. And this work means everything to me.

Beyond the stethoscope

There’s more to me than being a vet. Outside work, I compete in Strongman and Olympic Weightlifting, which means I spend a lot of time lifting odd things on purpose like barbells, logs, stones and pulling the occasional truck.

Training teaches me patience, persistence and how to keep showing up, even when something feels heavy.

And this work can be heavy. Walking alongside pets and their families through ageing, illness, end of life and grief asks a lot from me, physically, emotionally, and in quieter ways that are harder to name.

Training helps me stay grounded so I can keep coming back to this work with steady hands and a clear head.

Nature Awe Wonder Comfy Critters

The wild reminds me who I am

When I need to reset, I head outside. Hiking, camping, diving, snorkelling - nature is where I feel most calm, curious, and most myself.

I love wild places and wild creatures. Big horizons, crashing waves, quiet birdsong, weird animals and cool fungi. The kind of awe that reminds me how small we are and how deeply connected we are to this world.

Nature brings me back to myself. It fills my cup, clears my head and helps me show up with care, presence and compassion for every pet and every person I meet.

Testimonials shared by the families I’ve supported:

Dr Allie has gone above and beyond helping my big guy cross over. Having her come to farm so the entire dog pack and cats could be with him was the finale he deserved. The way she cares not only for the animals but us owners is extraordinary.
Dr Allie is like a warm hug during a devastating time.

For such an unbearable experience, and having had gone thru a traumatic experience in putting our boy down at the vets (not having this service available at the time) Dr Allie made this experience so much easier... if that is even possible. Dr Allie is extremely caring, and really takes the time to engage with your beloved pet, and you and your family.
